Applications to Master programmes

What is EMJMD?

An Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) is a prestigious, integrated, international study programme, jointly delivered by an international consortium of higher education institutions.

Eligibility criteria

Students must first apply for a scholarship to the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) of their choice through the website of consortia and go through a competitive selection process organized by the consortium HEIs. The selection, recruitment, and monitoring of individual students fall under the responsibility of the EMJMD consortium.

The study must take place in at least two of the Programme Countries. Part of the studies can also take place in Partner countries if there is a partner-country institution involved.

Duration

An EMJMD is a study programme of 60, 90 or 120 ECTS credits.  The student scholarship is awarded exclusively for a full-time enrolment in one of the Master courses and will cover the entire duration of the EMJMD study programme. This means that it lasts from a minimum of 12 months to a maximum of 24 months.

Academic outcome

The successful completion of the study programme will lead to the award of either a joint degree (i.e. one single degree certificate issued on behalf of at least two higher education institutions of the EMJMD consortium) or multiple degrees (i.e. at least two-degree certificates issued by two higher education institutions of the consortium).

Financial support

The EMJMD scholarship covers student participation costs (including the tuition fees, full insurance coverage and any other mandatory costs related to student participation in the Master); it represents a contribution to student travel and installation costs and includes a monthly subsistence allowance for the entire duration of the EMJMD study programme.

The total amount of the scholarship varies according to the duration of student course and student nationality (non-EU students receive larger scholarships, a minimum of 75%).

How to Apply

Each master program has its own application period and deadline, but most calls are opened during autumn, between October and January, for courses starting the following academic year. The generally required documents that may be required for the application includes a letter of motivation; diploma and grade list; proof of English language (TOEFL or IELTS), two reference letters and identification document.

Students should consult the online EMJMD Catalogue and contact the consortium offering the Master Course for more information on courses and application procedures. A student can apply to up to three Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree programmes in one selection year. Please note that students should apply ONLINE directly to the EMJMD consortium.

For all information about the application deadline, as well as necessary documentation and selection criteria, please consult the website of the respective master program (https://eacea.ec.europa.eu/erasmus-plus/emjmd-catalogue_en).
